First Visit

Your child’s first visit will be tailored to their age and your concerns. We do our best to introduce your child to the dental environment in a slow, caring, and child-friendly way to build healthy relationships and encourage positive future visits. We will always work at your child’s pace. Many parents are surprised to see how well their young children do at a first dental visit, and how much fun they have.

Age 1

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) all recommend establishing a Dental Home for your child by the time they are one year of age. The Dental Home is intended to provide a place where your child can come for all of his or her oral health needs, and develop an ongoing relationship between the dental care team, the patient, and their parent(s).

Age 1-3

For children under 3 years of age, our main goal is to acclimate the child to the dentist, build trust and rapport, and educate parents. If your child is comfortable and it is deemed appropriate by the dentist, children under 3 may have their teeth brushed, flossed, and cleaned. Children who are frightened or uncooperative may only get an exam, usually with the parent holding the child for comfort. If your child has cavities or you have concerns, we will address those concerns during this first visit.

Ages 4+

In addition to acclimating the patient, building trust, and educating parents, we will clean the teeth, take X-rays, and provide a fluoride treatment. We use a technique called “Tell, Show, and Do”, which goes exactly as it sounds. We introduce the children to our dental instruments by letting them touch, feel, and experience the sensations before we do a procedure. We will always address any questions or concerns you have and let you know what to expect in the future.

Q&A

We accept and file all insurances and will work diligently to help you get the maximum benefit possible. Please call our office if you have questions or would like to discuss.

The main goal of the first visit is to make the patient and parent(s) feel at ease, educate the parent(s) on oral hygiene and diet, and run through “Tell, Show, Do” (TSD) with the patient. We gauge the services we can provide based on your child’s comfort level.

The Laswell Family

My daughter has an enamel defect and has suffered from dental issues from the moment her first teeth came in. We saw multiple dentists across the state and after being disappointed with their care, decided to check out Just Kids Dental.
